The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) in Arusha is one in a network of Pan-African Institutions of Science and Technology located across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) with a business of operationalizing a 5D model with the following five key elements: (1) Research and Innovation; (2) Postgraduate Training and Skills Development; (3) Outreach/ Community Engagement; (4) Incubation Management; and (5) Commercialization.
The Incubation centre works towards naturing inventions and innovations, transforming them into viable business ventures ready for the market through licensing, assignment, NM-AIST spin-off companies and joint venture options. This is guided by tools, strategies and plans that provide technical development assistance to incubatees clients and inventors for incubation transformation in all phases of Pre-Incubation, Incubation and Post Incubation. The centre screens potential ideas, inventions, innovations, Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) and
Minimum Viable Systems/Processes (MVSs). It liaises with the Intellectual Property Management Office [IPMO] to ensure all ideas, inventions and innovations attained required IPs.
The centre operates under the Directorate of Research and Innovation, and in close collaboration with institutional departments and externally looks forward to collaborations across the globe.
