Quantum technologies and public-private collaboration at MWC25
Quantum technologies will revolutionize many aspects of our society and drive major advances in different industries. From quantum computing, with computers that will have the capacity to solve very complex problems that cannot be solved today with traditional computers, to quantum communications and cryptography, which bring extremely secure communication methods, to quantum sensors that can provide hyper-precise measurements.
During this session, Telefónica presented at Mobile World Congress 2025 (MWC25), the world's largest and most influential event in the connectivity industry, its lines of work in quantum technologies and moderated a round table discussion on the necessary public-private collaboration to promote them. To this end, it counted on the ecosystem surrounding the BIQAIN (Bizkaia Quantum Advanced Industries) initiative of the Provincial Council of Biscay to develop a cluster in quantum technologies. The round table was made up of the Provincial Council of Biscay, the TELEFONICA team that is promoting this project, and the companies as BBVA and entrepreneurs that form part of the cluster with special mention to QUBIZ.team, a pioneering deep-tech startup at the forefront of quantum sensing innovation, redefining the boundaries of precision measurement for positive impact. Its first breakthrough focuses on addressing one of today’s most critical environmental challenges: the real-time detection and monitoring of contaminants—such as PFAS (Forever Chemicals)—in drinking water. Leveraging cutting-edge quantum technologies, QUBIZ.team provides ultra-sensitive, regulatory-compliant solutions that set new industry standards in environmental safety and public health.
