À propos de votre organisation / profil
Neutron Star Systems (NSS) is a European deep-tech company enabling Space Mobility as a Service (SMAAS)through breakthrough high-temperature superconductor (HTS) technology. By integrating superconducting components into electric propulsion and power systems, NSS delivers spacecraft architectures that are more powerful, compact, and efficient than the current state of the art. Our mission is to provide both commercial and defence customers with the technological foundation to operate in increasingly congested, contested, and competitive orbits.
Our flagship product is SUPREME, the world’s first Applied-Field Magnetoplasmadynamic (AF-MPD) thruster enhanced with HTS coils. This technology provides unmatched thrust density, scalability, and operational flexibility, making it possible to use propellants that are 1,000x cheaper than xenon, such as argon, ammonia, or water. Unlike conventional Hall or ion thrusters, SUPREME can scale from 3 to 10 kW per thruster (baseline 5 kW) while retaining a compact form factor. It can be hybridised with chemical propulsion to create multi-mode propulsion systems that combine the efficiency of electric propulsion with the rapid response of chemical thrusters. This combination enables complex manoeuvres, extended mission profiles, and substantial cost reductions.
SUPREME addresses the most pressing needs of the space sector:
- Constellations: rapid deployment, plane changes, and long-term orbital management.
- Space Situational Awareness (SSA): enhanced manoeuvrability to track, monitor, and avoid collisions.
- OSAM (On-Orbit Servicing, Assembly, Manufacturing): ability to reposition, refuel, and repair satellites at scale.
- Space cargo logistics: faster and cheaper transfer of equipment, fuel, or infrastructure to GEO, the Moon, or Mars.
- Defence and security: dual-use manoeuvrability for responsive space operations in contested domains.
What differentiates NSS is not only the performance of SUPREME but also our integration of AI-driven autonomy and digital twins. By embedding advanced algorithms and quantum-ready architectures into the propulsion system, spacecraft can make autonomous, resilient, and energy-aware decisions in real time, increasing survivability in high-risk environments.
Building on these foundations, NSS is expanding its system capability through the EIC Pathfinder project STORM (Space Weather Forecasting with Suprathermal Observations and Resilient Maneuverability). STORM develops a distributed constellation of nanosatellites equipped with miniaturised sensors and solar sails, capable of detecting coronal mass ejections and solar flares up to five times earlier than current methods. This enables unprecedented space weather monitoring and the ability to manoeuvre satellites pre-emptively out of harm’s way. The integration of STORM with SUPREME creates a closed-loop architecture: our propulsion system provides the agility, while our space weather data provides the foresight. Together, these capabilities form the backbone of a resilient European space infrastructure, protecting spacecraft and critical services on Earth.
Through SUPREME and STORM, NSS positions itself as a pioneer in dual-use deep-tech for space, combining propulsion, autonomy, and space weather intelligence. Our solutions create new market opportunities in both the civilian and defence sectors, spanning:
- Small satellite constellations that remain manoeuvrable and sustainable.
- GEO communications satellites with extended lifetimes and lower operating costs.
- Fast-response cargo transfer missions to resupply orbital stations or lunar bases.
- Solar weather monitoring satellites for critical infrastructure protection.
- Mars and asteroid missions requiring high-power, flexible propulsion.
NSS is not just building a product; we are creating the infrastructure for the next generation of space mobility. By uniting superconducting propulsion (SUPREME) with predictive space weather intelligence (STORM), we are enabling spacecraft to be smarter, safer, and stronger—capable of adapting to dynamic threats and opportunities in Earth orbit, cislunar space, and beyond.
In short, NSS empowers Europe and its partners to master mobility in space, securing strategic autonomy while opening new commercial frontiers.
