SpaceSalad Studios is not just another indie game studio—we're a multi-award-winning powerhouse that blends humor with thought-provoking social commentary. Founded five years ago, we've carved a niche in the gaming world by focusing on gamification, creating fun, engaging experiences that leave a lasting impression. From publishing games on platforms like Steam and mobile App Store and Play Store, to teaching game development in rural and township areas partnering with Goethe-Institut johannesburg, EmpowaYouth we aim to inspire the next generation of game devs and challenge the status quo.
At SpaceSalad Studios, we believe that games can be both entertaining and meaningful. Our titles tackle important social issues in clever, humorous ways, sparking conversations while keeping players hooked. We host gaming events like AVI Jozi's Game Expo partnering with Chococlate Tribe and Netflix, panels, and outreach programs that empower young developers by providing them with the tools, knowledge, and inspiration to make their mark in the gaming industry. Beyond games, we’re also involved in creating music, animation, and software solutions like WebGL and apps.
Our studio's achievements speak for themselves. In 2022, we became the first video game studio to showcase at the prestigious Rupert Museum, and we proudly held an exhibition there. Our game Hot Bunz has earned global recognition, with nominations at Game Connection x China Joy Indie Game Development Awards for Best Upcoming Game, Grand Award, and People’s Choice Award, all in 2023. Additionally, Doba Dash was voted Comic Con Africa Game of the Year in 2020, and our projects were featured at Steam Next Fest and Indie Live Expo.
Our commitment to elevating the African gaming scene has also led us to participate in some of the most competitive and prestigious accelerator programs. In 2022, we were part of the Spielfabrique African Games co-production accelerator with two of our games, Doba Dash and Rapz. Previously, we participated in the BVIG and Netflix Accelerator program, and we're proud to be involved in the Creation Africa Program powered by IFAS.
