Recornea technologies prevent blindness through a proprietary technology that creates innovative nitinol based products for ophthalmic applications. The technology couples minimally invasive surgery with minimally invasive biocompatible and bioenhanced devices to treat eye conditions.

The first Recornea product, the GROSSO implant, treats keratoconus, a blindness-causing condition that deforms the cornea affecting 175 million people worldwide. In 2024, Recornea brought the GROSSO implant to the EU clinical stage at the renowned Institute of Ocular Microsurgery (IMO) in Barcelona, Spain. Additional support from 25 clinicians, 5 ophthalmic related companies and 7 investors underscore this achievement. Recornea raised €2.6M in combined non-dilutive and dilutive funding for the platform technology with 6 awarded patent and 15 patent applications, will spin out multiple innovative products such as Glaucomesh for glaucoma related ailments and U-Cornea for corneal related ailments in the coming years.

Recornea closed €1.2M of Seed Round at the end of 2024.

Reached the secured amount of 750 k€ in our 1.2 M€ seed round

We are excited to share a new milestone for RECORNEA! We are proud to be now part of Scientifica ’s portfolio, an Italian Venture Capital firm dedicated to funding scientific start-ups. This investment marks a significant step forward in our journey, and we are confident that our collaboration will lead to groundbreaking achievements. To date the total already insured by these investors is 750 k€ and the amount left to close the seed round of 1.2 M€ is equal to 450 k€. The deadline to close the round is Dec 31, 2024.

Start of the First In Human Clinical Trial

We are pleased to announce that on 23 April 2024, we successfully conducted the Site Initiation Visit (SIV) at the Institute of Ocular Microsurgery (IMO), Barcelona Spain the site for the First In Human Clinical Trial. With this milestone achieved, we are now fully prepared to start the enrolment of the first subject. This marks an important step forward in our clinical trial, and we are eager to begin recruiting participants in May 2024.
