Oculyze receives Phase 1 grant approval from European Union Horizon 2020 Program
August 14th, 2018, Wildau, Germany: Oculyze, a spinoff from the Technical
University (TH) Wildau and the world’s premier platform for mobile image analysis,
today announced that it had recently been awarded a Phase 1 grant of €50,000 by
the prestigious European Union Horizon Research and Innovation Program. In line
with the requirements for obtaining the initial phase approval, Oculyze delivered a
strategic presentation on the feasibility and commercial potential of its proprietary
mobile microscopy solution for veterinarians and dairy farmers, enabling them to
easily diagnose subclinical endometritis amongst dairy cattle with a high degree of
accuracy on the farm itself within seconds, without having to lug around huge
microscopes. Once treated, the affected cattle quickly recover and regain normal
output levels, improving herd well-being and increasing farmer revenue.
Commenting on the recent development, Kilian Moser, Co-founder and Chief
Executive Officer of Oculyze said:
“It is truly an honor to qualify past phase 1 and to be counted amongst the
chosen few, given the high level of competitive ideas and proposals submitted
by our like-minded contemporaries from across the EU. This approval,
reinforces our collective efforts at Oculyze and strengthens our commitment
towards delivering on our vision to provide automated image analysis to anyone
anywhere.
Our latest mobile microscopy innovation is based on the most sophisticated
image recognition techniques developed inhouse and provides automatic data
upload, storage, as well as results management within our easily accessible
cloud-based system.
We are now gearing up towards delivering on our objectives to include
prototyping, pilot lines and testing for performance and verification of data
amongst others as part of receiving the next level of funding. On behalf of our
co-founders, I take this opportunity to thank the EU and Horizon 2020 for their
faith in our service and product and commit to continue the work on developing
further innovative products.”
The Innovation Union is one of seven Europe 2020 strategy flagship initiatives, aimed
at securing Europe's global competitiveness for smart, sustainable and inclusive
growth. One of the key goals of the Innovation Union is to transform Europe unto a
world-class science performer with Horizon 2020 leading from the front as its financial
instrument geared solely towards implementation. Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU
Research and Innovation program, with nearly €80 billion in funding available over 7
years (2014 to 2020). The initiative was designed to fund excellent research and to
deliver on innovation- taking research outcomes to the market in order to enhance the
impacts of research investment.
Horizon 2020 brings together all existing EU research and innovation funding
combining the funding previously separately available from the Framework Program
for research and technological development (FP), the innovation-related activities of
the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Program (CIP) and the European
Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).
