NeoProteomics AB is developing next generation cancer diagnostics based on a new highly specific and sensitive reporter system; protein biomarkers from platelets.

Platelets are specifically activated during cancer. The activation results in different levels of certain proteins in the platelets and can therefore be used for diagnostic purposes. Platelets are also present in vast quantities resulting in high sensitivity of a diagnostic process. Concentration of platelets are about 10⁶ than for the potentially present circulating cancer cells.

NeoProteomics have done discovery on biomarkers from platelets and has filed patent applications for the indications ovarian, colorectal, prostate and pancreatic cancer diagnosis. Patents are at the national stage and are filed in EU, USA, Japan and the BRIC countries.

Platelets as a reporter system for cancer is becoming known in the scientific and medical field and NeoProteomics have a good position on this emerging technology to the diagnostic market.
