MiWEndo Solutions was founded in 2019 as a spin-off of the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), Hospital Clínic de Barcelona (HCB), the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), and the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA). The idea originated from the collaboration between Marta Guardiola, an electrical engineer, and Gloria Fernández Esparrach, a gastroenterologist and endoscopy specialist from HCB. By combining their expertise in microwave technology and gastroenterology, their mission is to revolutionize the technology for detecting colorectal cancer, one of the most common and deadliest cancers worldwide.

MiWEndo is a low-cost and safe (non-ionizing) electromagnetic device designed to be attached at the tip of a conventional colonoscope. MiWEndo automatizes polyp detection emitting an alarm when a polyp is sensed, increases the field of view to 360º and provides quantitative differentiation between malignant and benign polyps without changing the current clinical practice.
