Despite being discovered 100 years ago, half of those in need around the world struggle with access to insulin due to limited insulin availability or high cost of the most optimized insulin delivery systems. And as the number of people living with diabetes is growing rapidly worldwide, this problem will only increase in the future.

The barrier to people using modern injection systems is primarily its affordability. They are left to inject insulin from vials using syringes. Injecting using syringes make it harder to deliver correct dosages of insulins leading to complications including blindness, amputations and death, and produce significant amounts of hazardous waste. Single use syringes are often used multiple times, risking infection.

GO-Pen has been developed to be a paradigm-shift for insulin injection, relieving ALL the pains of using syringes: it is price-neutral, less painful to inject, accurate even for 10μL or 1 unit, easy to use and transport, can be used with several types of insulin, and is affordable. GO-Pen’s monthly cost in use is the same as the monthly syringe cost in use.

In addition, future innovations must help reduce climate change. GO-Pen helps directly by reducing the amount of plastic used by six times current plastic use. This correlates to sixfold reductions in climate impact per injection as well as addressing sustainable consumption issues related to single use plastics and hazardous waste caused by standard syringes. 

Furthermore, keeping more people in compliance with treatment will reduce late-stage complications and hospitalizations. Hospitals emit large quantities of CO2 and this secondary effect may be even greater.
