African immigrants, remote workers, and businesses need help managing their money across borders and currencies.
In 2020, Sub-Saharan Africa had total imports of $249 billion. Inflation coupled with central bank regulations, illustrated more recently by governments' crackdown on cryptocurrencies, has made it increasingly expensive for Sub-Saharian businesses and consumers to trade globally.
Remittances to Sub-Saharan Africa overtook foreign direct investment as the largest source of incoming capital. A costly form of capital, keeping in mind that African diasporas incurred the highest cost to send money home in 2020, averaging 8.9 percent (vs. 4.9 percent for Southeast Asia).
Cauri Money is a multicurrency wallet for French-speaking African nationals and businesses (car dealerships, construction businesses, angel investors, informal money transfer operators, grocery store chains, etc.) to send and receive money, make payments, and exchange crypto and fiat currencies at a fair and transparent rate. To build this, we’ve partnered with Paynectics AD (European Electronic Money Institution).
