Bio-marine Ingredients Ireland

Bio-marine Ingredients Ireland Ltd (BII) is a marine ingredients company. We have invested over €30m to build a pilot marine bio-refinery in Monaghan, Ireland, just one hour north of Dublin airport. In that bio-refinery, through a process of enzymatic hydrolysis, we simultaneously produce a variety of powders from underutilised fish. Our powders include both soluble and insoluble protein and a range of calcium powders. The annual input capacity of the pilot plant is 14,000 tonnes.

Through the application of leading edge process technology allied to commercial scientific evidence, we are now accessing various markets including human nutrition, with a specific focus on Asia. BII owns a site which now has planning permission to build a plant on the North West Coast of Ireland which will have an expected annual input capacity of 84,000 tonnes. Having resolved all technical challenges and de-risked the market in the pilot bio-refinery, BII is seeking up to €60m funding by way of a combination of debt and equity to build the new facility and scale the business.
