About your organization
We're a spin-off from the Univ. of Aveiro developing innovative cost-efficient PET systems for nuclear medical imaging. PET scanners produce 3D images of labeled molecules inside the body, in-vivo and non-invasively, allowing evaluation of organ/tissue function. PET is the most sensitive technology to detect cancer, so it's very useful for diagnosis, staging and therapy monitorization.
Preclinical PET is important to study animal models of disease and is now a critical tool for medical research, accelerating drug discovery and development. However, high complexity and cost of preclinical PET systems (> 0.5 m€) makes them unaffordable to most research centers, particularly in academia. In addition, there's no dedicated system for training.
RI-TE develops cost-effective innovative PET scanners, with a proprietary technology that produces high quality images with a much smaller number of detectors, reducing costs by +80%. Our mission is to democratize access to PET in 2 segments:
1) education & training (Universities & Health Schools) - with easyPET.3D
2) preclinical imaging (research centers, CROs) - with iPET
We now have a ready to market product (easyPET.3D) with impressive results and prooven capacity for biomedical studies in small mice, and we aim to build a more capable, advanced preclinical iPET scanner. In addition, our technology is scalable to build organ-specific PET scanners with up to 20 cm diameter field-of-view, e.g. for positron emission mammography.
