Konree Innovation Ltd
About your organization / profile
Konree Innovation is solving the problem of sea lice parasites in salmon aquaculture. Konree seeks to reliably manage and control sea lice numbers in the salmon cage at sea, keeping the levels below the regulatory limits, leading to good fish health and welfare in the cage and at the same time protecting Wild salmon from infection.
The founders have deep domain expertise, complementary expertise (marine science & marine engineering), and are former senior leaders in management. The company currently employs 4 people, this number will double by the end of the year. Konree has secured an early adopter in Ireland and Scotland and filed for patent in June 2025. Konree looks to the premium salmon market first, establish itself there before pursuing other fish aquaculture.
The Salmon Aquaculture Industry is worth approx. 21 billion Euro and sea lice costs the industry 6-7 billion Euro annually roughly split equally between cost of treatments and the salmon mortalities due to sea lice and the harsh treatments. Sea lice are the number issue preventing the industry from growing and scale. Demand far outstrips supply however, the industry is a hostage to sea lice and sea lice related issues. Norway is the global leader in salmon aquaculture (>50% global production) and key influencer in aquaculture generally. The Norwegian ambition is to double production by 2030 and grow 5-fold by 2050. Beyond Norway other markets include Chile (ca. 28%), Scotland (ca. 7.5%), Canada (4.5%), Iceland (3.4%), Faroe Islands (3.4%), Australia & New Zealand (2.5%) and Ireland (<1%).
Note fish aquaculture was worth 135 billion Euro in 2020 (FAO State of World Fisheries & Aquaculture 2020 Report), and at least 40 commercial fish species have sea lice issues.
