Ecoroots addresses circularity/green manufacturing by displacing non-bio-degradable materials in the packaging industry. Ecoroots has innovatively bio-engineered mycelium into a bio-degradable, light yet strong bio-foam capable of playing a key role in the packaging industry. Proprietary techniques are applied in transforming agricultural and industrial waste from food, beverage, forestry and agricultural industries by mixing  with mycelium-based spawn. Mycelium acts as nature's glue creating a filamentous network that transforms these waste/industrial by-productions  into a sustainable, eco-friendly packaging  material. Circularity is also fostered through innovative use of other waste management systems (rainwater capture and circulation, usage of waste heat within the manufacturing process).

Existing packaging materials falls short in critical areas for environmental sustainability as highlighted hereafter. Polystyrene is non-recyclable, brittle, and environmentally damaging, making it incompatible with sustainability-driven brands. Bubble Wrap/Sleeves are single use, hydrocarbon based and difficult to recycle.  Bubble Wrap also lacks premium aesthetic and consequently fails to align with luxury branding packaging requirements. Cardboard based packaging is often bulky, water sensitive and is said to be inadequate for protecting fragile goods. Lastly, wood which is more ecological compared to plastic is heavy, costly and contributes to deforestation hence non-sustainable.  Ecoroots addresses these paint points in the packaging industry by bringing to market a packaging product made predominantly by re-cycling agricultural/industrial waste and is bio-degradable, compostable, has no chemicals in its manufacturing processes, is light weight yet durable and protective and is also manufactured using a low energy intensity manufacturing process. This packaging product meets the needs of environmentally conscientious premium and fragile goods industries.
