Alcyon Photonics provides high performance components to foster a new generation of smarter photonic circuits and devices.

We are a spin off  from National Research Council (CSIC), bringing  to market the leading innovation and specific SWG know-how developed  by the founder partner and researcher Dr. Aitor Villafranca.

Alcyon subwavelength (SWG) metamaterial-like technology provides with integrated polarization management within wide bandwidth, which results in wide bandwidth, low consumption and compact designs powering applications such as data centre communications or, FBG sensing.

Integrated Photonics market addressed by Alcyon is expected to grow at 40% CAGR during the next 5 years.  Alcyon Photonics aims at capturing a chunk of the market, by making available ultra wide bandwidth photonic integrated building blocks (BBs) for end customers to build solutions, replicating the electronics IP  (EDA) model that ignited massive electronics adoption.

Besides powerful SWG design, Alcyon hero design feature is related to polarization management.Efficient polarization control (division, conversion, rotation, filtering) in wide bandwidth is critical to increase capacity for data transmission and minimize information loss on fully integrated devices such as transceivers, fiber sensor interrogators FBG, LIDAR or OTDR, among many others.
