Redrose Developments works in seaweed, we cultivate on long-lines and novel methods for growing higher value reds and green. We work with harvesters who cut wild stock, an aging and declining population who hold heritage licenses granting access to macroalgae. Using innovative cultivation and processing methods for various species we maximise the value of this amazing commodity.
This much undervalued resource is becoming more mainstream in sectors from food, feed, nutraceuticals, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals where specific compounds are being identified to treat cancer, diabetes and even to reduce hair loss. Seaweed is widely used in agriculture for fertiliser, plant bio-stimulant and as a soil conditioner. New sectors such as biopolymer and biofuels are being developed. However, seaweed is traditionally used for single application with many valued compounds being discarded.
The model of processing used by Redrose is a novel, low capex, modulated system that creates two commercial outputs, mineral rich liquid and solids. Working close to source we retain minerals and nutrients that are often lost. Franchise opportunities for owner-operators to build a strong business, supporting rural coastal communities whilst protecting the environment. Restricted in size we ensure that only sustainable amounts of stock are processed, protecting our marine eco-system and reducing the carbon footprint the units are fully replicable to reach scale and meet growing market demands.
