We believe that the problem of insufficient food supply leading to hunger and malnutrition can be solved or at least reduced. By using machine learning of satellite data and climate conditions we anticipate food surplus and deficit regions in East and Southern Africa before they can be observed. According to this information, we decide about when to store food staples, where to store food staples as well as how much to store. Our distribution network of maize and rice is also adjusted according to the forecasts connecting surplus to deficit regions. As we are the best informed food trader in the region, our profit margins are higher and as an important additional fact: We increase food price stability.

Hunger pandemic as a result of Covid-19

While organizations like FAO and WFP as well as governments have warned several times about a hunger pandemic threatening Africa as a result of Covid-19, we at Flamingoo Foods understand well our responsibility of managing efficient food supply chains.

Being neither hit by a drought nor by locusts, we are right in the middle of a food surplus while most neighboring countries depend on dwindling food imports. More needs to be done right now that all harvested food can be kept in a safe place to avoid any harvest losses during this crucial time. Amazingly, we have just built our new store and established trading connections to DRC and Burundi, being the most depending countries on food imports in our region.
