Diabeloop is a a company developing a smart therapeutic system to help people with Type 1 diabetes manage their disease. 

Type 1 Diabetes affects 20 million people in the world, including more than 2 million in Europe. it is major global healthcare issue. 

People with Type 1 diabetes do not produce insulin, the hormone that regulates blood-sugar levels. Patients need an external supply of insulin on a daily basis without which they die. The high-stake challenge is for the patient to calculate the right amount of insulin. Indeed, insulin needs vary greatly according to food, physical activity, and even stress. Yet it is crucial to get the amount about right. Too much insulin means hypoglycemia, which can trigger a coma. Too little insulin means hyperglycemia, which inflicts permanent long-term damage to vital organs. Glycemic control is therefore both crucial and difficult. 

Diabeloop's artificial intelligence aims to solve this problem. Highly sophisticated algorithms calculate insulin needs based on glucose readings and give orders to an insulin patch-pump.
