Bactusense has set out to revolutionize and disrupt one of the oldest and most successful technologies of the 19th century: the Petri dish. Ubiquitously used in the medical and food industries among others, this is the gold standard method for detecting and quantifying live bacteria, and is widely used today in the food industry: 1.2 Billion tests per year and growing at 8%. However, it is a slow method and takes 2-5 days to run, which severely limits response time, increases costs, reduces shelf life and contributes to food waste. Bactusense has developed a “modern Petri dish” which delivers the same results in hours instead of days based on 21st century optics and algorithms.
