Agrasys´ (AS) activity is the development and commercialization of a new cereal called Tritordeum. AS is entering a scale-up phase and is aiming to expand and consolidate its business in its key European markets and selected external markets (e.g. Australia), with focus on the organic sector.
Tritordeum differs from standard cereals in that AS has full control over the germplasm (breeding programme / varieties), and the production chain, and there is no alternative source of the crop. Licensed growers produce grain under contract. Grain is purchased from growers by AS or by companies licensed by AS and is sold to licensed flour millers. This allows AS to control the value chain from seed to flour with 100% traceability. AS has a dual revenue stream - first its own seed and grain production and second royalty income from licensees which produce and sell tritordeum grain and from millers.
The company is looking to invest in developing new varieties for organic production in order to expand into the buoyant organic market. AS has already demonstrated its capacity to transform an R&D result into business, it needs now to optimize organic crop production and accelerate the penetration of its added-value products into the market.
