About your organization / profile
Blouberg Municipality Sustainable Agriculture NPC (BMSA) spearheads the Chloorkop Green Electrolysis Project, a strategic retrofit of an existing chloroalkali facility in Gauteng, South Africa, into a sustainable production hub for green hydrogen and chloroalkali. This initiative drives innovation across mining, agriculture, pulp and paper, and industry, reducing emissions by 25% while empowering 100,000 smallholder farmers. Supported by Siemens Smart Microgrids and TotalEnergies Hybrid Power Systems, with technical validation from Nel Hydrogen and Thyssenkrupp Nucera, the project targets a scalable output of 150,000 tons per year by 2030, unlocking 72% market access across Southern Europe, Africa, and BRICS.
The retrofit approach optimizes existing infrastructure, enhancing efficiency and community impact. BMSA’s experienced team collaborates with global partners, gaining recognition through invitations to the SU20 G20 Midterm Engagement on July 21-22, 2025, under South Africa’s G20 Presidency, and the MSME Ministerial Meeting on July 23-24, 2025, showcasing its farmer support model. As a BRICS Susong Cup semi-finalist with a decision pending mid-July 2025, and registered for GFFA 2026’s expert panel and Science Slam, the project stands at the forefront of international sustainability discussions.
