Floatech S.L.
About your organization / profile
Floatech, founded in 2021, aims to improve people's lives and the health of the planet, through the development and manufacturing of advanced nanomaterials. These materials are created using a patented process specifically designed for mass production of nanomaterial for the energy, mobility, and industrial sectors.
Floatech's innovative solutions address critical needs in the mobility, energy, and industrial sectors, contributing to sustainable development and environmental preservation.
Floatech aims to be the global leader in the mass production of nanomaterials. Our flagship product, Si⋮Coil®, is set to become the standard pure silicon anode for lithium ion battery in the global market, leveraging our patented FCCVD (Floating Catalytic Chemical Vapor Deposition) process as the benchmark for nanomaterial manufacturing. With a presence across three continents—Europe, America, and Asia—Floatech is committed to enhancing the sustainability and competitiveness of the products we manufacture
Floatech's purpose is realized through the production of nanomaterials based on its intellectual property, which includes three families of patents that protect:
- The manufacturing process: Ensuring the unique and efficient production of nanomaterials.
- Precursor gases: Covering the specific gases that can be utilized within the process.
- Post-treatment processes: Enhancing the specifications and performance of the materials produced.
Summary of key objectives and strategies.
Problem Statement: 30% of emissions are produced by mobility activities. Although we know how to solve this problem: electric mobility; the transition from combustion vehicles to electric ones is not happening at the expected speed and scale. The limitations in graphite supply, its limited storage capacity, and China's control of over 90% of existing graphite have led the European Union to classify graphite as a critical material to be replaced.
This solution aims to enable cheaper mobility, with charging times under 10 minutes, autonomy ranges of over 1000 km, using the current battery sizes, and scalability that allows everyone access to sustainable mobility.
The opportunity: Floatech targets a rapidly growing market (28% CAGR 2024-2035), with a forecast global production of batteries for electric vehicles of 3,750 GWh in 2035.
Customers: Floatech operates in a B2B sales channel, supplying Si⋮Coil nano-silicon anodes to OEMs in consumer electronics and automotive, cell designers and manufacturers, and developers of new technologies.
These new anode need to be integrated into the cell producer's supply chain before recurring sales. The cell, composed of the anode, electrolyte, and cathode, must be optimized for optimal performance. Their integration into current processes does not require substantial changes to the existing roll-to-roll process.
Reveneu Steams: Floatech's business model combines the direct sale of silicon anodes and the licensing of its technology to battery manufacturers and automotive OEMs. The company has an experienced management team and strong intellectual property, with three patent families and more than 60 applications Freedom to Operate in Europe, Asia, and America.
Funding and Future Plans: In January 2024, Floatech raised €1.34M, which was used to build and commission a 1MWh demonstration plant last September, supplying customers for certification and initial series. Now, it seeks to raise a new round (Series A) of €10M to go to market and design and build the production reactor for a plant serving the electronics sector and automotive pre-production batches.
Floatech's objective is to make Si⋮Coil® the standard anode for LIBs in the global mobility market, through direct product supply and/or licensing of the Floatech® turnkey process.
Highlight of the unique value proposition and competitive advantages
Floatech offers a comprehensive solution based on:
- Silicon: An abundant material, the second most abundant element on Earth, offering ten times the storage capacity of current graphite anodes, four times faster recharge, longer range, and ten times less volume.
- Nanotechnology: Eliminates mechanical fatigue of the silicon anode during charging and discharging.
- Patented Process: FCCVD (Floating Catalytic Chemical Vapor Deposition), a competitive and scalable dry manufacturing method.
Floatech's primary advantage over direct competitors lies in its competitive cost, scalability, and excellent performance. Our production costs have the potential to be half of the current costs for graphite, making our solution highly economical.
Floatech's Si⋮Coil® features a textile structure that eliminates the need for support materials, solvents, or aggregators, reducing processing costs by 25%. This structure also facilitates seamless integration with current roll-to-roll manufacturing processes when supplied in coil format, enabling the exponential scaling required in various industries.
Moreover, silicon is the second most abundant material on Earth
