What is biofouling?

Biofouling, the natural accumulation of living organisms on submerged structures, rapidly renders components unusable, leading to service interruptions, performance degradation, increased fuel consumption, and consequently, greenhouse gas emissions—all of which drive up maintenance and operational costs. 

What is TiTech?

TiTech uses titanium surfaces that are precisely altered with specific electric signals to create biofouling-free components. Unlike conventional methods that rely on harmoful chemicals or coatings, TiTech relies on electrochemical processes to modify the titanium surfaces. This creates unfavorable conditions for the growth of microosrganisms, that form the first layer of biofilm, that later would be the food for macrofouling.

By eliminating the need for biocides or toxic substances, TiTech sets a new standard in enviromentally responsible ocean technology, offering a solution that is effective for the whole life of the component (and maintains its efficiency all the time) and minimally invasive to marine ecosystems. 

Proven peformance in real conditions

TiTech´s reliability and performance have been validated in different marine enviroments:

- Mediterranenan Sea and North Sea: Several prototypes including titanium propellers, titanium-covered pipes, a heat exchanger, a boat demonstrator (with a titanium hull) or titanium plates have demonstrated excellent biofouling resistance under real-word conditions in our dock in Vilanova i la Geltrù and in a test platform in the Noth Sea. 
- Pilot: The technology has also been succesfully applied and tested in a water collection system and cooling system for a gasistic company in Spain.
