SureChill’s innovative refrigerators contain walls filled with water and ice which acts as a wholly natural thermal energy store. Water has the unique density property that at 4°C it is at its heaviest so sinks to the bottom of the fridge. As it warms up, it floats back up to the thermal energy store (ice), cools down, and sinks again, repeating the cycle. Since all the water under or to the side of the compartment is about 4°C, it remains perfectly cool throughout the fridge. The ice acts just like a battery that never wears out storing useful, high-density energy any time that power is available. This unique method of cooling allows a constantly stable temperature, with or without power.
