Solace Foundation

The Solace Foundation is a charitable organization that seeks to help bridge the health gaps in the management and prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). It has a special and specialised interest in assessing health inequalities and reducing the health divide in our communities. The Foundation is a non-profit, dedicated to the health and well-being of individuals affected by chronic diseases.

We strive to help vulnerable communities by enabling access to nonexistent health services in our efforts to provide affordable and essential healthcare for all. We engage in free hypertension, diabetes, and breast cancer screening in local communities.

Our vision is to see everyone have equal opportunities for good health and well-being. We strive to create a society where health disparities are minimised and individuals are empowered with the right knowledge to make informed decisions about their health, leading to healthier communities. We strive to aid in the development and implementation of comprehensive health education programs within The Gambia.

Cancer is a special focus area of our foundation, with global cancer burden increasing both in The Gambia and globally. However, with advances in modern medicine, comprehensive cancer care is the most optimal approach in caring for cancer patients. This would entail having a center that would treat cancer patients in a holistic manner with services of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy being available.

In The Gambia no such structure exists neither in government facilities nor in private settings. Our foundation, which is composed of doctors in the field of oncology along with individuals from other professions, has come up with a proposal for the setting up of the first ever comprehensive Cancer Care Center in Gambia. This center will provide the much needed holistic approach to oncological care in The Gambia and its neighbours in the subregion.
