WHAT WE DO
Harnessing the diversity and versatility of African (medicinal) mushroom mycelium, combining it with fermentation and AI, to discover novel and high performing compounds that have application in various industries – to enable sustainable manufacturing of products without compromising on performance.
Our company has access to > 3000 fungi strains of Southern Africa, and we are fermenting with these strains to produce biomolecule data which can be explored to discover valuable compounds for now and into the future.
The company has produced biomolecules from our research to service the personal care industry as our beach head market segment. These have been tested for safety and biological efficacy and are used to manufacture cosmeceutical products in South Africa. These biomolecules have also been sent for testing with customers in Europe.
Sawubona Mycelium now starting to use AI tools in order to help process the data and mine it for valuable compounds from the strain we are fermenting.
In the next five years our aim is to ferment and generate data from 2000 strains of Southern Africa.
We are raising funding for building the AI powered fermentation and biomolecule data processing tool as well as pilot scale production of molecules identified and required by the personal care market.
BUSINESS MODEL
The business model for the company is the to:
- Operate a Research & Development Platform for discovery of new and functional compounds or materials.
- Direct sales of ingredients (B2B supply).
- Verticalization (B2C spin out) with Commercialization partners.
- Monetization of Mycelium Biomolecule Data.
