About your organization / profile
Reblade is a tech startup in wind energy, located in Denmark, founded in 2020, with commercial traction and with €4.65M in public funding. We are currently doing a seed round of €1.3M
Reblade has developed an automated and drone-based repair of leading edge erosion of wind turbine blades and a highly scalable and very profitable HaaS business model with monthly recurring revenue. The patented drone and robot technology handles leading edge repairs in mere minutes per turbine blade compared with the current state-of-art of 4½ days of repair time for manual blade repairs. This reduces turbine downtime by 90% and increases turbine revenue, energy production and ROI, as well as reduces LCoE, O&M costs and CO2 emissions (by 450 tons CO2 per turbine repair). The company leases their drone repair technology to customers, while their customers themselves supply the personnel using the technology. The market of global blade repair is growing from EUR 8 billion in 2026 to EUR 11 billion in 2031, while the wind energy O&M is projected to experience a shortage of 150.000 technicians by 2035.
This drone-based approach and proprietary onboard tooling entirely removes the need for rope-access to the turbine and turbine blades, and Reblade’s solution is the first technology designed for offshore and floating wind service, as well as for ease of use by regular service teams.
The technology and the quality of the coating application tooling has been validated by OEMs, energy companies and service companies. The company’s first product launches in 2024 and its second product launches in 2025. Based on the prototype demos, the company has already built a very promising customer pipeline, is currently negotiating an impressive contract with a European energy giant for first rights to the purchase of two MVP and 10 pre-production units.
Reblade was founded in 2020 by a multi-patent CTO and a serial entrepreneur CEO. We have since added the founder and former CEO of Magnomatics to the team, due to his experience in IP strategy and in sales of new technology to the wind sector, as well as expanded the development team with highly specialized and experienced engineers (9.4 years of average work experience) to a team of currently eight people (7.25 FTE). The HQ is in Denmark (Northern Europe/Nordics), and a local presence and sales activities in the UK have been established, with an ex-Goldwind wind energy specialist being active as Reblade's agent in China.
Funding Achievements
As Eurostars, Eureka and EIC Accelerator award winners in 2022, the founders secured EUR 4.65M project funding for developments in 2023-2025. The founder team, the business model, business plan and product-market-fit have impressed both the Horizon Europe and the European Innovation Council juries, where only the very top startups receive grants among the more than thousand tech companies participating in each round.
The drive for the seed round is to secure co-financing to fully utilize the full grant amounts in order to accelerate time-to-market. In addition, the founders have previously secured EUR 105.000 in cash injection in the first fiscal year, EUR 200.000 in grants by Innovation Fund Denmark and the founders have personally contributed EUR 30.000 in cash and EUR 275.000 in director's loans.
In the current seed round, the company is seeking EUR 1.3M. As EIB can optionally join the seed round with a 1:1 matching investment, the company needs only EUR 1.3M from private investors to fill the round as the EIB 1:1 matching investment option will bring the total seed round to EUR 2.6M.
Key Achievements
· Solved the blue sky engineering
Has the modular drone platform in place and the hardest tooling module developed and demonstrated. Although there is still a lot of high-quality engineering task to be undertaken, the blue sky engineering has been conceptualized, solved and proven.
· Successful demos to key stakeholders and product-market-fit
Convinced the wind sector to change and introduce a new standard operating procedure, where the turbines blades are positioned horizontally for repairs, as opposed to the vertical position normally used to allow competitors’ technology and workers hanging in ropes to be hoisted along the blade for repairs.
Succeeded in delivering consistent quality of the coating application adhering to industrial specifications, which our competitors still struggle with. This was already done with demos of the company’s prototype 1 and highly impressed key stakeholders.
Energy companies have made substantial in-kind contributions. Either in the form of giving access to strategic teams, technical domain experts, business case co-development or direct access to financial and pricing information on previous repair campaigns and competitors.
· Documented business case and market traction
The company is in contract negotiations with one of the larges European energy companies and have agreed on pricing, business model and number of drones.
