ProteinDistillery aims to become an agent of change in the food production industry by offering high-quality alternative protein with excellent functionality and nutritional value. We enable food manufacturers to do away with various additives from their recipes and market “clean-label” products by replacing them with a single natural ingredient. Our technology enables the use of a variety of sidestreams; Wherever there is fermented biomass, we can produce our proteins and their subsequent sidestreams as our process is easily replicable.
Problem: The current dependency on animal factory farming for the production of protein is unsustainable; it contributes to 57% of emissions in food production, while the farming of raw materials for processing into alternative proteins has created urgency amidst the climate crisis (monocropping, deforestation, water consumption, etc.). Consumers seek plant-based alternatives, but today they lack taste, texture, and complete nutritional profiles; this leads to an overreliance on chemical and/or animal additives that can pose health risks and raise environmental and ethical concerns. Regulatory hurdles further complicate the adoption of sustainable protein solutions, necessitating innovation in plant-based products to meet consumer demands while adhering to clean labelling and regulatory standards.
Solution: ProteinDistillery has revolutionised alternative protein extraction by pioneering a transformative process to derive high-quality vegan protein from microorganisms like brewer's yeast, offering cleaner labels, enhanced functionalities, and a more sustainable food system. As a NON-novel food, it faces no regulatory barriers to enter the market, thereby offering a tremendous advantage over other products in development which will soon be competing for market share in our space.
