Brain oxygen monitoring for increased health and survival of preterms
OxyPrem AG is a start-up with roots in the Department of Neonatology of the University of Zurich (Switzerland). OxyPrem’s current product is a medical device that measures cerebral oxygenation (StO2) in neonates.
Over 1 in 10 babies are born too soon. Preterm children are among the most vulnerable patients in modern clinical care. Their bodies are underdeveloped, and they are in an extremely fragile condition. A particularly important role is played by the oxygen supply to the brain: When there is an under- or even oversupply of oxygen, these children face the threat of life-long damages or immediate death. Worst of all, this cannot be observed from the outside which is a terrible situation for medical staff and parents, let alone for the babies themselves.
OxyPrem's current product is a CE marked medical device using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) to non-invasively measure regional tissue oxygen saturation on at-risk body parts such as brain.
OxyPrem pursues its mission as a major contributor to excellent preterm health care.
