Today, in modern telecoms infrastructures and in particular for 5G+/6G technologies, around 18% of total energy consumption is linked to the conversion between electronics and optics for data synchronization. The central element at the heart of this architecture is an oscillator. This oscillator generates a time reference that can be shared or distributed between several nodes in this complex architecture.

Our vision is to reconcile performance and energy efficiency for data distribution and synchronization in telecom and embedded networks. We are convinced that on-chip photonics is THE solution to take over from electronics in future generations of 5G+/6G and, in the short medium term, in Industry 4.0. Although this paradigm shift will entail profound technological changes, on-chip photonics is currently a fast-growing field that is widely supported internationally, whether by major institutions such as the European Commission or listed multinationals.

Together with the LumiSync team, we have patented the first 100% photonic nano-oscillator integrated on a chip, enabling faster and more economical architectures. Our component synchronizes data 1,000 times faster and 1,000 times more energy-efficiently than current solutions. In France, this should lead to savings of several hundred GWh per year, i.e. a reduction in the energy bill of almost €150 million per year. With the limits of electronics set to impact more and more industries in the short and medium term, it's crucial to start adopting on-chip photonics as soon as possible.

This project, supported by leading oscillator and integrated photonics manufacturers (Orange, Thalès, Synopsys...), aims to prepare the industrialization of these nano-oscillators, as well as their use in the demonstration of low-power optical networks for 5G+/6G and embedded networks. This technological innovation is based on 10 years' expertise at C2N (a CNRS laboratory) and 2 patent families attesting to the robustness of the invention. Last but not least, the LumiSync project is supported by a multi-disciplinary, complementary team who have been working together for over a year to bring this 100% photonic oscillator to market.  Thanks to our technical, business and strategic development plan, we're confident that LumiSync will have everything ot needs to become a leading player in the photonic revolution.
