Company
Left Angle is a deep tech SaaS startup specialized in developing professional grade creative software applications and cloud-based solutions for motion design, visual effects (VFX), and mass personalized video projects. The company was founded by experts with over 25 years of experience in the broadcasting industry and numerous years of academic R&D work at INRIA research lab. Left Angle’s innovative technology has received numerous accolades, including a Genie Award from the Digital Paris Summit, as well as i-Lab and i-Nov research grants from the French government.
Market Gaps
Social media communications are ubiquitous, and most companies rely on motion design videos to grasp viewer attention with fast-paced animated designs. Cloud-based video creation solutions are too simplistic and limiting as they do not offer the ability to create professional-grade motion design animations. Existing desktop software applications are targeted toward professionals and offer antiquated workflows. These workflows are based on outdated technological foundations, piled on a fragile ecosystem of third-party extensions. Their lack of development is a source of frustration for professionals who are under the pressure of production teams demanding fast turnarounds and last-minute changes.
These solutions are ill-suited for non-motion design professionals who tend to turn to pre-made projects and templates.
Market Overview
The target market is composed of about 1 million professional motion designers and visual effects artists, representing a US$2B market with a CAGR of 13%. The larger video editor segment is comprised of over 10 million users that create videos using desktop video editing software and often use pre-made motion design animations. Lastly, digital marketing platform Canva offers primitive and simplistic motion design video creation tools, among other services, but counts upwards of 100 million users worldwide.
Product: Autograph
Left Angle has developed a modern, professional motion design and VFX software packed with the power to render detailed animated videos with unprecedented speed, offering all the tools and timesaving features artists need. Autograph’s core technology is built to optimize graphics tasks and can render complex scalable animations and imagery up to 100x faster than any other existing software solution. In addition, Autograph’s protected IP is the result of over 10 years of R&D. This technology makes it easy to integrate effective, modularized AI models with existing imagery tools to provide a modern creative workflow. A brand-new motion graphics templating system enables professionals to create responsive design, visually rich animations that they can then monetize on Left Angle’s upcoming marketplace platform, targeted toward a wide range of video creators. Left Angle’s piracy protection solution gives artists control over their revenue, as well as a competitive advantage over existing marketplaces.
Market Position
Autograph has been on the market since January 2023 and has received positive feedback from users praising Autograph as a long-awaited replacement for Adobe After Effects. Left Angle’s go-to-market strategy is centered on investing in visibility opportunities, power users, community, and building brand identity. The company aims to reach 3,000 Autograph subscribers by the end of 2025.
Purpose of Investment
Left Angle is seeking €500K as a seed round to implement its go-to-market strategy and build critical mass for Autograph. There are plans for another funding round in 12 to 18 months to fund core marketing campaigns, train professional networks, and create additional training material.
Possible Exit
Left Angle aims to break even within two years. This increased company value would be of interest for larger companies, competitors (i.e., Black Magic Design, Maxon, Canva, Apple), and investors.
