About your organization / profile

The first Research and Development (R&D) project operated in complete autonomy by ISGREEN was born during the development of a feasibility study for the construction of an Anaerobic Digester (AD) for the disposal of the organic fraction of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) in which the need was identified to give an economic and environmental value to carbon dioxide (CO2) which was the result of the refining of biogas (upgrading of Biomethane) produced by the AD plant from which the CO2 was considered a waste material and it was not valorised and therefore released into the atmosphere. The result of this project was a Photobioreactor (PBR), patented, which is included  in a context of circular economy, with the aim of intercepting CO2 emissions, produced not only by the upgrading of biomethane, but also by other different human activities, and transforming them into algae mass (spirulina), for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical use, creating a product with high economic and social value, while at the same time mitigating the effects of the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Our development project aimed to design and build a photo-bioreactor capable of replicating the optimal living environment of spirulina, optimizing its consumption (related to lighting, heating/cooling, water consumption and soil consumption) to produce spirulina even in adverse climates unsuitable for cultivation.
