About your organization / profile
By 2050 the world’s population is expected to reach 9.1 billion, forcing the intensification on the livestock sector to meet the growing demand for high-value animal protein. Current animal protein production is the most resource intensive having tremendous environmental impact with dangerous consequences for resource usage. Other conventional source of proteins like fish- and soymeal increasingly used as animal feed in the last years are not sustainable options, due to the scarcity of fish stocks and adverse effects to the environment associated to soybean production. There is an urgent need for alternative protein sources with a stable and continuous supply to sustainably feed the growing population. In this context, insects are a great alternative as sustainable and abundant source of proteins with high nutritional content while its rearing has a low environmental impact. Reacting to market needs Global Bugs Holding AB is developing EntoPark, the largest insect breeding farm of Crickets. The farm will use vertical farming and automation technology to scale up the production and reduce costs, resulting in the delivery of 350 tonnes powder/year, to be sold at €25-32/kg. We forecast by 2025 to have 12 farms up and running in the Swedish Global Food Park, a circular economy project, and 3 farms for the APAC market. This will result in the generation of €70.3 million revenues and a Return on Investment of 10.7 by that year, considering all additional investment.
