About your organization / profile
Eolink is an industrial SME based in Brest, that has developed an integrated turbine-float solution that is unique in the floating offshore wind industry, enabling the production of more efficient and cost-competitive wind turbines.
In deeper oceans, weather conditions are more challenging than off the coast, with powerful winds and waves. Until now, most floating solutions have been based on a single-tower model. However, this system implies considerable effort to resist tilting due to waves and winds, and the structure must be reinforced (and, therefore, made heavier) to withstand these forces. Changing that paradigm, Eolink has developed a patented pyramidal solution based not on a single tower, but on four masts. The turbine and float are developed simul taneously.
The pyramidal structure makes it possible to overcome a number of constraints due to the marine environment. It allows the use of larger turbines and it lowers the production costs, making floating wind turbines more competitive.
Thanks to its modular construction, based on flat steel panels, Eolink’s technology enables mass industrialisation taking advantage of the skills and infrastructure available in the shipbuilding industry. +The 4-mast structure distributes the load more evenly, making it possible to build structures that are 2x lighter (40% steel mass saving). The pyramidal structure can support more powerful turbines (over 20 MW), thanks to the absence of vibration problems in the masts. It allows the installation of longer and more flexible blades as well.
After validating its concept in the IFREMER labs (France), and testing a prototype in real sea conditions, Eolink is currently building a 5 MW pre-commercial demonstrator. It will be the largest floating turbine on the French Atlantic coastline. Beyond this major project, we are getting ready for commercial and industrial scale, out of Brest, where we are located, in line with the commercial tenders that are being organised in Europe and globally, for projects that will become operationnal by the early 2030's.
