We are a young, deep-tech start-up from the technology and design hub of Eindhoven, the Netherlands, where Philips electronics was started. Our team of international experts at eLstar offer in-depth expertise in smart glass technology with years of industry experience developing and manufacturing smart adaptive glass.
We have developed the most versatile technology for switchable glass and offer an abundance of experience in display development, commercialization of technology and project management.

At eLstar, we create adaptive smart glass driven by Electrophoretic Light Emulator (ELM) technology. With this ultra performing ELM technology, we control the amount of solar energy that enters a building or vehicle and allow solar heat to enter when it's needed and to absorb the energy when it's unwanted.
The result is substantial energy savings and increased visual comfort that’s affordable.
eLstar offers smart glass with the widest dynamic range - in both visible and invisible spectrum - of any technology currently available. However, cost, as much as performance has been the limiting factor for growth of smart glass applications. Manufacturing cost for general application needs to be a fraction of what is currently possible with existing solutions. Our COGS model confirms that targets for affordable solutions are possible. And so is rapid scalability of capacity. Existing solutions have a very high retail price and require large investments in manufacturing capacities.
eLstar’s technology has been developed to be highly proprietary, but easily accessible. Leveraging existing manufacturing assets, it can be rapidly customised and, scaled to large volume, using the most efficient manufacturing processes available.
eLstar's proprietary dynamic glass is optimized to offer a superior solution for the automotive market. Our groundbreaking technology enables improved aerodynamics, weight reduction, superior quality instrumentation and entertainment, and efficient temperature control.
eLstar's electrophoteric dynamic glass, based on unique electrophoretic light modulator technology, is bendable due to the use of 0.5 mm glass. This cutting-edge innovative technology enables new applications for dynamic glass in architecture and automotive. eLstar is now developing an all-plastic fully bendable version for even broader applications.
With our patented solutions, we offer the industry’s widest range of modulation from <0.2% to more than 70%. ELM smart glass can switch from dark to transparent state in a matter of seconds, regardless of size.
Our technology is based upon a unique concept that uses highly specialized electrophoretic inks, which switch between very dark light absorbing states across an infinite range of intermediate light absorbing states, to highly transparent, high clarity open states. eLstar’s device architecture is simple and low cost, with highly robust pigment-based inks; and can be produced with a broad range of parameters, using existing manufacturing facilities within the display industry.
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) drives excellence in architecture and sets the standard for educational and professional excellence globally. eLstar’s material on Adaptive Smart Glass has been approved by RIBA and is now included in RIBA’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
