In order to address major global concerns regarding the environmental impact of emerging pollutants in European waters we have developed BiosFilter, a cost-efficient and eco-friendly treatment efficiently depolluting both drinking water and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) from micropollutants (MPs). The BiosFilter solution uses a new cyclodextrin polymer, developed by BioStart to be a remarkable agent at capturing MPs. This polymer is introduced into a filter especially developed by BioStart and that has proved to be effective in each water treatment plants it has been tested. While current methods are expensive, cumbersome and environment-unfriendly, the BiosFilter technology provides: 1) an efficient technology, as the polymer captures more than 85% of MPs, removing toxic metals and organic MPs from industrial and domestic environments alike, and allowing the reuse of water for many new purposes; 2) an eco-friendly solution, as the polymer, made from plant-derived components is recyclable up to five times, and the captured material can be valued and reintroduced in various economic processes; and 3) a cost-effective solution, thanks to its low cost of installation, as the filter is installed without any need to modify the existing plant structures (no capex required), as well as its low operational cost (35% to 40% cost savings in operation and maintenance
