In comparison to other photo bioreactor (PBR) producers, Algoliner developed an entirely new concept for the realization of PBRs. Typical pipe type PBRs are made out of pipe elements produced in factories, packed and eventually transported to the site of the PBR assembly. During the assembly, pipe elements are attached by using joints to typical strand length of 50 or 100 meters. Algoliner on the other hand produces pipes with a unique mobile factory on the very site of the future PBR. Thus, elements do not have to be packed, transported and re-assembled. Joints usually used become redundant. We were thus able to use a different shape of pipes and created a pipe with an integrated holding device. This allows hanging or laying the pipes without bringing any forces onto the pipe wall. Therefore, we were able to significantly reduce the wall thickness while still ensuring a sufficient burst pressure. Ultimately, we need only 40% of the raw materials, which are typically being used for pipes while the life time of the product is more than 30 years.

In summary, the costs for raw material and manpower to realize PBRs are considerably lower than compared to conventional methods. Consequently, so is Algoliner’s CO2 footprint.

We use components made with extruding, injection, casting, machining and 3 D printing. In an intelligent combination of those components according to a modular transvers matrix concept we are able to realize highly individualized photo bioreactor concepts.
