Biodegradable single-use wheat bran tableware by BIOTREM was attributed the “Solar Impulse Efficient Solution” Label following an assessment performed by external independent experts and based on verified standards. It is thereby joining the #1000solutions challenge, an initiative by the Solar Impulse Foundation to select solutions that meet high standards in profitability and sustainability and present them to decision-makers to fast-track their implementation. 

Biodegradable disposable tableware manufactured from the compressed wheat bran is Biotrem’s main product line. 1 ton of wheat bran can be transformed into over 10.000 plates, bowls or cups. Disposable products, made from wheat bran, are an excellent alternative to most of disposable tableware made from plastic, paper and even some chemically processed bio-based products, the production and utilisation of which has a heavy environmental footprint. Wheat bran-based disposable products are extremely environmentally friendly and fully compostable (no industrial composting required) within just 30 days.

To receive the “Solar Impulse Efficient Solution” Label, BIOTREM wheat bran tableware was thoroughly assessed by a pool of independent experts according to 5 criteria covering the three main topics of Feasibility, Environmental and Profitability. All labelled solutions are part of the #1000solutions portfolio that will be presented to decision-makers in business and government by Bertrand Piccard, Chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation. The aim of this initiative is to encourage the adoption of more ambitious environmental targets and fast-track the implementation of these solutions on a large scale.

The BRANBOX project – run by the Polish technology company BIOTREM – is focused on development of fully biodegradable and environmentally safe disposable take-away food packaging, exclusively made of sustainable plant-based raw materials. The BRANBOX by BIOTREM packaging shall be thermal sealable, coolable and heatable and will provide resistance to liquids. First of all, it will be a real and effective alternative to disposable food packaging made of plastic or cellulose.

The BIOTREM company, known worldwide thanks to the introduction of unique single-use tableware made of wheat bran, already proved that the company’s innovative technology enables the manufacturing of biodegradable (compostable) disposable products which can significantly reduce the stream of plastic waste and help protect the environment.
