ADS owns the property rights of the Radar Positioning System (RPS), the future standard for supporting ADAS systems. RPS consists in a slight adaptation of the infrastructure (just a painted line in black color with 3D paint drops in the center of the lane. See spotflex on youtube). mm-Wave radars installed in the underbody of the vehicles can read them easily. As a result, the car is located with 1cm accuracy in a safe and reliable manner. Also 1 degree error vehicle orientation is achieved. Thanks to this extreme location SAE3 handover issues are resolved. When AV perception fails, the human has to take the handover in less than 1 second but humans need more than 6 seconds to react properly. RPS provides 200 m. of safe guidance when perception fails thanks to a precise starting poing and a recorded road shape stored in memory. This distance provides enough response time for the driver. This is the main reason because UN, EC , FHWA and the IRF are paying extreme attention to RPS solution. Adapt the infrastructure with RPS is affordable and feasible.

RPS first deployment will take place in 2022 for supporting public transportation in Leon city (Spain) in collaboration with ALSA (National Express Group) :
