PlasmaBound

PlasmaBound provides a disruptive low energy single-step pretreatment technology, termed Controlled Polymer Ablation (CPA), which facilitates the reliable structural adhesive joining of composite materials to dissimilar materials (i.e. diminishing rejections), and without any waste production.

The technology will satisfy the needs of global enterprises who are aggressively pursuing lightweighting opportunities to meet either regulatory or commercial drivers, such as, OEM’s in the Automotive (EU 6), Aerospace and Mass Transport sectors. Additionally, CPA is further bolstered by 3 additional value adds; no waste production, operation simplification (a single in-line automatable process) and fewer expensive composite rejects.

PlasmaBound is a University College Dublin (UCD) spin-out based in NovaUCD and led by CEO and New Process Introduction (NPI) specialist Alan. Alan has a Life Sciences background, a heavily regulated industry, and 20 years’ experience in both SME and corporate operations, during which he founded and grew a multi-million turnover NPI consultancy firm. PlasmaBound’s CTO is Nick, the inventor of the PlasmaBound technology.  Nick is a process development and New Technology Introduction (NTI) specialist with 10 years’ R&D experience. Through Enterprise Ireland and InterTradeIreland supports, PlasmaBound is currently engaged with several local and global OEMs, and has supported ÉirLoop, Ireland’s entry to the SpaceX Hyperloop competition.
