About the label

The EIC Accelerator supports individual Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), in particular Startups and spinout companies to develop and scaleup game-changing innovations. In some cases small mid-caps (up to 500 employees) are supported.

The EIC Accelerator provides substantial financial support with:

  • grant funding (non-dilutive) of up to €2.5 million for innovation development costs,
  • investments (direct equity investments) of up to €15 million managed by the EIC Fund for scale up and other relevant costs.

The EIC Fund is the venture arm of EIC and it has been established in June 2020 in Luxembourg. With funding of about 3.5 billion EUR its mission is to bridge the funding gap, scale up breakthrough European innovations and to crowd in other investors, further sharing risks. The Fund invests tickets between 0,5-15 mil EUR in the form of equity, quasi-equity in start-ups with potentially market-creating innovations, whether based on breakthrough disruptive technologies originating from research (deep-tech) or on social innovation from any sector, across all EU countries (and associated countries). For more on the  EIC Fund: Investment opportunities (europa.eu).

In addition, EIC selected companies receive coaching, mentoring, access to investors, procurers and corporates, and many other opportunities as part of the EIC Business Acceleration Services. In addition the EIC has recently launched the EIC Greenhouse Gas Programme, through which the beneficiaries receive expert support to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

The EIC welcomes applications from innovators in all EU Member States and countries associated to the Horizon Europe programme. It particularly encourages applications from startups and SMEs with female CEOs to increase the participation of women in tech.
