Ipsum smart insight - smart home energy insight appliances
Greentech Ipsum is set to end the fuss around Smart Meters
Ipsum is able to exploit the savings potential of smart meters by providing consumers with device level insight.
Ipsum Energy is a 100% Dutch greentech company, founded by CEO Peter de Bie former director from Philips. Ipsum, which has close links with the University of Twente, makes it possible to give consumers insight into their energy consumption at a device level. Direct and continuous 24/7 feedback through the most used home device; the smartphone!
Market noise around the smart meter savings potential or lack of has not surprised Ipsum. The Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency and the Vereniging Eigen Huis rightly conclude that current functionality of the smart meter needs additional services to deliver consumer value. Research at Stanford (Carrie Armel, 2011) has already proven that regular consumption feedback and device level insight is needed and can achieve savings of between 12% and 20%.
Smart meters have the capability to deliver efficiencies in the utility market and meet consumer saving objectives. Consumers therefore need to know which devices will save the most. Devices could include; bad performing devices such as (old) refrigerators that waste too much energy, standby power that is often left on in a home for a range of devices or to use your washing machine at lower temperatures.
This is where Ipsum’s Smart Insight comes in:
<>·Automatically detects devices
<>···oo··
Ipsum’s Smart Insight is based on a unique algorithm developed through a research initiative at the University of Twente (UT). The research mission was to develop an algorithm that automatically identifies and name devices.
Making things simple: Ipsum’s solution is simple to connect to the smart meter and avoids the need for plugs and expensive hardware. Ipsum mission is to provide insight for everyone, to create a real impact in meeting our climate objectives and supporting consumers to actively save energy.
We are often asked what sets us apart from the smart thermostats and energy companies who also have an app. These services only provide total consumption insight and are unable to identify devices. Furthermore, solutions such as plugs only provide single device insight and are expensive to apply to a whole home. Ipsum’s clever backend only uses your energy data to automatically identify devices, making it easy and adaptable to use.
Ipsum is active in the market and will launch its Smart Insight by October 1, 2018. Consumers can sign up this week to join to join as launching customers. Ipsum challenges the government and partners from within but also from outside the sector to make Ipsum’s Smart Insight available to everyone. Smart Insight will make the business case for the smart meters positive by actively engaging people with their energy and creating substantial savings. It’s simple, clever and engaging!. Ipsum is for everyone.
