About your organization

  •

The company was originally founded in USA in November 2013 by Rafael Guzmán, co-founder and co-inventor of iSIM technology, who set up SATLANTIS as a spin-off of the University of Florida (UF).

One year later, in November 2014, SATLANTIS relocated its headquarters to Getxo (Bilbao area in Spain) to consolidate the development of optical payloads in the European market. This decision was motivated by the industrial and institutional ecosystem of the Basque region, well-known for its outstanding engineering capabilities, especially in mechanical engineering and precision manufacturing processes.

In September 2016, the company closed its first investment round of 2.35 M€, involving large technology companies as well as public and private venture funds.

SATLANTIS reached a team of 45 people during 2020, that includes high-profile engineers, managers, investors and advisors. In the same year, the company achieved another important milestone: the in-orbit demonstration onboard the International Space Station (ISS). Through this mission, SATLANTIS established as a global player in the Earth Observation market for small satellites.

In March 2021, the company closed its second investment round of 14 M€, involving public and private venture funds and companies, headed by Enagás and accompanied by SEPI and the current investors AXIS-ICO, ORZA and Diputación Foral de Bizkaia.
