Indoor mobile communication is sometimes challenging...
It turns out that the glazings used in recent or recently renovated buildings have an invisible coating which reflects interior heat back inside. This is mandatory to comply with the current norms of energy efficiency. A side effect of this coating is a strong attenuation of the electromagnetic waves for the frequencies used by the smartphones, leading to poor quality communications.
The solution proposed by Lichens, a start-up based in Grenoble, is completely passive. It improves indoor communication without compromising the thermal isolation properties of the building. And this is quite surprising!
