Tosibox reinforces its information security expertise by appointing the cyber security specialist Pekka Sillanpää (pictured on the right) as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) on February 4, 2019.

As CTO, Pekka Sillanpää will focus on driving R&D work and software development, generating growth and sharing his expertise to position Tosibox as a thought leader in its industry. Sillanpää will also become a member of the Tosibox Executive Management Team.

Pekka Sillanpää has previously worked as Chief Technology Officer at the cyber security services company Nixu Oyj. He is also a co-leader at OWASP Helsinki, one of the local chapters of the Open Web Application Security Project, a worldwide community focused on improving the security of application software. Sillanpää holds a master’s degree in Information Technology.

TOSIBOX® Lock 500 has been nominated for the Polish Control Engineering magazine’s Product of the Year 2018 Award in the Wireless Communication category. The magazine has announced the high-quality candidates determined by a professional preliminary jury. Winners will be chosen by the magazine’s readers in a voting that will commence on January 31, 2019.

Released to the market last year, the company’s flagship product TOSIBOX® Lock 500 is a high-performance connectivity device created for demanding industrial environments where a secure way of transferring large amounts of data is essential.

Control Engineering Poland is a prestigious award program for new products within security, Industry 4.0 and more. TOSIBOX® Lock 500 was also shortlisted for the same magazine’s US counterpart, the Control Engineering 2019 Engineers’ Choice Award, where the voting ballot closed in December. The winners and honorable mentions of the competition will be announced in February 2019.

Tosibox has been accepted as a full member of the Finnish Information Security Cluster (FISC) from January 1, 2019 onwards.

KPA Unicon can now collect real-time data from its plants for monitoring and product development purposes, with AI solutions for the data implemented centrally in a cloud or a data center. The company is able to securely duplicate the data from its plants in real time in their cloud service. Currently, over 1.2 million lines are stored every hour, which is almost 29 million lines per day.

The high-performance TOSIBOX® Lock 500 matches Arctic Drilling Company’s needs perfectly. TOSIBOX® Lock 500 is installed to Arctic Drilling Company’s moving drilling units at the company’s factory in Finland, before they’re shipped off to work sites. For maintenance purposes, servicemen use TOSIBOX® Keys for establishing a remote connection, after the drilling unit is in use anywhere in the world.

“Thanks to TOSIBOX®, we have been able to solve 80% of issues remotely this year. On an annual basis, the savings from remote maintenance can be measured in millions of euros,” says Joni Niskala, Manager, Maintenance at Arctic Drilling Company.

For the moving drilling units, a compact installation of one remote access device was considered optimal. The Lock 500i version with integrated modem does not require any additional pieces, is of compact size and fits well with other systems. Thanks to the Lock 500’s dual SIM feature, Arctic Drilling Company can utilize various operators for connectivity wherever the drilling units may be.
